We are more than six months into the COVID-19 pandemic and have had to pivot in every way possible in our professional and personal lives. I work among you and I see you. I see the struggles you face with personal protective equipment. I see you caring for very sick patients. I see you answering your call as a nurse in the face of a new virus. I see us being stronger and better because of the connections we have. It is apt that 2020 has been called, The Year of the Nurse, but I see 2020 as the year of connections. The pandemic has shown us the strength of our community and has helped us focus our priorities. More than ever, we have to take care of ourselves so we can take care of our patients, friends and family. ARIN is here for you. We created a COVID-19 Online Support Group so that we can share and connect during this surreal time. ARIN is transforming in-person events to online gatherings. We are improving our CEU programing so that ARIN members have greater access to CE credits. We are continuing to share practical tips with you to help alleviate the stress and exhaustion you're feeling. I urge you all to stay connected with your colleagues and friends. We are getting through this difficult time because we are nurses and we are courageous. To say that it has been a strange year is an understatement. Many of us are experiencing things we've never experienced before, including isolation, long-term elevated stress levels, new working conditions and concern for the future of healthcare. However, in response to this we have also seen the resilience and love of our fellow humans. This global pandemic hasn't left much time for individual reflection. But when the dust settles and we look back, I wonder how we will compare our past to what comes next. What I hope to remember most about this year is the coming together of communities, stories of compassion and courage, both friends and strangers pledging to look after and look out for each other. I consider what I went without, what I missed the most and what I found in conversations with loved ones and colleagues. As we think about returning to "normal", I hope we will continue thinking about those things: how we were able to grow and change at a rate we hadn't previously thought possible, what we truly missed and what, perhaps, we discovered we can do without. Let's return to the things that matter (whatever that means to you), and continue to work to uplift ourselves and each other. There can no longer be any doubt that we are a global community and our future depends on all of us working as one. We are taking that to heart at ARIN, as we work to advance, connect and promote radiologic and imaging nursing for this and the next generation, regardless of who you are or where you come from. We're all in this together. Fostering the growth of nurses who advance the standard of care in the imaging environment. ! Go to arinursing.org for more details
