As at 20 February, 634 persons on board tested positive for the causative virus. Recent published work suggests that up to 18% of these COVID-19 positive passengers were asymptomatic carriers. 4 The Japanese authorities imposed a Â2 week strict quarantine under the Japan's Quarantine Act enacted of 1951, effectively prohibiting the disembarkation of anyone onto Japanese soil. The authors highlight their concerns in relation to the initiation and management of this strategy.
