A finalist for the Pulitzer Prize in 2000 and a regular contributor to The New York Review of Books, Kimmelman is the author of a forthcoming book with the same title as his lecture, as well as ofPortraits: Talking with Artists at the Met, the Modern, the Louvre and Elsewhere,which was named a best book of the year by The Times and The Washington Post. Kimmelman, a former senior fellow in the National Arts Journalism Program atColumbiaUniversity, was graduated fromYaleUniversityin 1980 and earned his masters degree fromHarvardUniversity.
