The fire was reported at 8:15 a.m. and led to the evacuation of the LaFortune Student Center and several nearby buildings. The Notre Dame, South Bend and Clay Township Fire Departments responded and the fire was extinguished at 10:45 a.m. One Notre Dame employee was treated for smoke inhalation and has been released from the hospital. The cause of the fire is under investigation and the extent of damage is unknown at this time. Classes were not canceled and all campus events will take place as scheduled. The incident interrupted Internet, telephone and cable television service in several areas of campus. The Office of Information Technologies continues to evaluate the outages and is working to restore services. Updated information is available on the Web at http://emergency.nd.edu.
