Rabbi David G. Dalin, visiting professor in Judaic studies at Princeton University, will give a lecture entitled “Pius XII and the Jews” Oct. 7 (Monday) at 7 p.m. in Room 102 of the University of Notre Dame’s DeBartolo Hall.p. Rabbi Dalin’s lecture will provide a Jewish perspective on what he believes to be the mischaracterization of the role played by Pope Pius XII during World War II. A controversial article he wrote on the subject, entitled “Pius XII and the Jews,” appeared recently in the Weekly Standard and was reprinted in the Roman magazine, Inside the Vatican.p. Rabbi Dalin, a scholar of American Judaism and the history of Christian-Jewish relations, is the author or co-author of five books, including “Religion and State in the American Jewish Experience,” published by the University of Notre Dame Press in 1997 and, most recently, “The President of the United States and the Jews.” Rabbi Dalin is a member of the Editorial Advisory Board of the journal First Things and a member of the Board of Governors of Sacred Heart University’s Center for Christian Jewish understanding.
