A series of lectures commemorating G.K. Chesterton’s 1930 visit to the University of Notre Dame will be given on campus Monday-Friday (Nov.11-15).p. The English writer G.K. Chesterton, who received an honorary degree from Notre Dame after giving a six week series of lectures here, was famous for his gregarious personality, penetrating wit, and passionate Catholicism. His numerous essays, novels and poems often employed the rhetorical device of paradox, or contradictory argument, to indicate the absurdities of modern times and to investigate the mysteries of Christian faith.p.
