Former Oklahoma Governor Frank Keating, who was recently appointed chairman of the National Review Board for the Office of Child and Youth Protection by the nation’s Catholic bishops, will give a lecture entitled “Political Life and the Christian Vocation” Feb. 24 (Monday) at 4 p.m. in the auditorium of the Hesburgh Center for International Studies.p. A native of St. Louis, Keating grew up in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He was graduated from Georgetown University in 1966 and received a law degree from the University of Oklahoma College of Law three years later. He worked for the Federal Bureau of Investigation before being elected to the Oklahoma Legislature, where he served terms in the House and Senate. In 1981 he was named U.S. attorney for the northern district of Oklahoma and later served in the Reagan and Bush Administrations as assistant secretary of the treasury, associate attorney general and acting deputy secretary at the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. He was elected in 1994 to the first of two terms as Oklahoma’s governor, and in January he became president of the American Council of Life Insurers.p.
