A conference at the University of Notre Dame titled “The Politics of Democratic Inclusion” will draw some of the nation’s leading scholars to campus Thursday-Saturday (Oct. 17-19) to examine how the American political system does—and does not—provide representation opportunities for those who traditionally are excluded from political power.p. The conference is the first to be sponsored by the University’s new Program in American Democracy, which provides an academic forum to explore the quality of the democratic process in this country. As exemplified by its inaugural conference, the program is particularly interested in the process and problems of America’s political institutions as they relate to the inclusion of a socially diverse population.p.
