Latino Youth Leadership Conference set for April 21, 22

The University of Notre Dames fifth annual Latino Youth Leadership Conference, which brings some 40 top Latino high school students to campus to encourage them to pursue higher education, will be held Friday and Saturday (April 21 and 22).

Sponsored by the Universitys Institute for Latino Studies,SueƱos sin Fronteras: Making College Dreams a Realityalso allows the young people to embrace their culture and Catholic tradition, contribute to the community, and earn one college credit for their efforts.Workshops focus on leadership, self-esteem and real University experiences.

The Latino Youth Leadership Conference recently was recognized as the primary reason Notre Dame was ranked No. 13 on Hispanic Magazines 2006 list of "Top 25 Colleges for Latinos.

Run entirely by Notre Dame students, the conference is free of charge for participants.Additional information, including a schedule of events, is available at http://www.nd.edu/~latino/students/suenos.htm .

Founded in 1999, the Institute for Latino Studies provides an academic environment that advances knowledge and understanding of the Latino experience in theUnited States. As an interdisciplinary unit, the institute seeks to incorporate the study ofthe Latino population of theUnited Statesas a vital component of Notre Dames academic mission and also provides an administrative home and support for the Latino student clubs on campus.
