Team RFware won last year’s McCloskey Business Plan Competition. Members included Brian Dunn, an electrical engineering graduate student, and J. Nicholas Laneman, assistant professor of electrical engineering. RFware is a venture that develops software to make wireless communication devices compatible. The technology makes possible a new generation of electronic communication devices that can be adapted to almost any current and future wireless protocol with a simple software upgrade. Such technology will immediately benefit the armed forces as well as local police, fire, and emergency management departments, which all have struggled for decades with incompatible communication devices.
