An international conference titled “Women and the Contested State: Religion, Violence and Agency in South Asia” will take place Friday and Saturday (April 11-12) at the University of Notre Dame’s Hesburgh Center for International Studies.p. Sponsored by the Kroc Institute for International Peace Studies, the conference will feature two keynote addresses by leading authorities in the field. Veena Das, the Krieger-Eisenhower Professor of Anthropology at Johns Hopkins University, will deliver a lecture titled “Forms, Life and Killable Bodies” at 2:15 p.m. Friday. Peter van der Veer, professor of comparative religion and director of the Research Center on Religion and Society at the University of Amsterdam, will speak at 7:30 p.m. Friday on ?Tradition and Violence in South Asia."p.
