ACRL News Issue (B) of College & Research Libraries RESEA148COLLEGE &RCH LIBRARIES NEWS No. 5, May 1969 ACRL News Issue (A) of College & Research Libraries, Vol. 30, No. 3 New Editor Named for CRL R i c h a r d M a r t i n D o u g h e r t y , associate di­ rector of libraries at the University of Colorado, will become editor of College & Research Libraries at the end of the summer, succeeding David Kaser, now in his seventh year in that post. Dr. Dougherty will bring to his new task an extensive experience in librarianship, schol­ arship, and journal editing, including periods of service as assistant editor of both Library Resources & Technical Services and the Jour­ nal of Library Automation. H e has published a score of articles in the library press, has w ritten several landmark reports, and is joint author of the book Scientific Management of Library Op­ erations. Born in East Chicago in 1935, Dr. Dougher­ ty took his bachelor’s degree from Purdue Uni­ versity before going on to Rutgers for his MLS and PhD degrees. Prior to taking his present position in 1966, he was head of the acquisitions departm ent at the University of North Carolina. In addition to his library prac­ tice, he has also lectured or taught at Rutgers and Syracuse Universities and at the Universi­ ties of Southern California and North Caro­ lina. Somehow he has also found time in his young life to serve two years in the Navy, to w re stle , to w o rk in ste e l mills, and to raise three fine children. D r Dougherty will be aided in his new assignment by William Henry W ebb who will succeed Mrs. Elizabeth Swint as CR L assistant editor. Presently University B i b l i o g r a p h e r at Boulder, Mr. W ebb holds d e g r e e s from San Luis Rey College, Arizona State University, and Indiana University, at the last of which he is now a candidate for the PhD. A news editor, to succeed David Doerrer, and a new editorial board will be appointed later. ■ ■ ACRL MONOGRAPHS ED ITO RIA L CHANGE Dr. Edward G. Holley, director of libraries n the University of Houston, becomes editor f the A C R L Monographs Series beginning this ummer. He will succeed in th e position David . Heron who completes his term as editor f the seventeen-year-old series. ■ m i o s W o CORRECTION An unaccountable error in the March issue of CR L promoted G e o r g e L. G a r d i n e r to director of libraries at Illinois State University at Normal. Mr. Gardiner is presently assistant reference librarian at the Illinois institution.
