The contract will expan d NLM’s AIDS informa­ tion outreach program to six com m unity-based organizations in the primarily rural, northwest section o f Virginia, enabling staff m em bers to a c c e s s HIV/AIDS e lec tro n ic inform ation re ­ sources. Boston U n iv e rs ity ’ s School o f T h e o lo g y Library w as aw arded a grant o f $ 1 17,000 to con serve and electronically catalog a historic collection o f approxim ately 3 ,500 early hym­ nals. T he collection, w hich was given to the university early this century by Methodist cleric- sch o la rs C harles S. Nutter and Frank J. M ellon Fou nd ation to com p lete cataloging and electronic conversion o f biblio­ graphic records for its rare b o o k s collections. T h e three-y ear project will focu s on printed bo o k s from 1 5 0 1 -1 8 0 0 and is the m ost am bi­ tious cataloging initiative ev er undertaken at the library. The N a tio n a l D ig ita l L ib ra ry P ro g ra m at the Library o f Congress will receive a $1 mil­ lion donation from Federal Express to continue to add to the electronic American Memory c o l­ lections ( http://www.loc.gov/). The grant is part o f the HEA Title IIB Library Education and Human Resource Developm ent Program and will fund four full-time library and information science graduate fellowships b e ­ ginning winter term 1998. Acquisitions A d o zen historic b illb o a rd s a n d th o u ­ sands o f other outdoor advertisem ents have b e e n d onated to D uke U niversity’s Special Collections Library by the O utdoor Advertis­ ing Association o f America (OAAA). T he col­ lection con tain s subw ay placards, w artim e posters, bus displays, photos, and decades o f office records and m arketing surveys, among other items. A ccess to much o f the new m ate­ rials is limited at present b ecau se archivists are cataloging and arranging the collections, but som e introductory information is available at the Jo h n W. The records o f th e T a m a rin d Institute are now available at the University o f New M exico General Library Center for Southwest Research. T he Tamarind Institute was estab­ lished in 1959 to revive and preserve the fine art o f lithography. T he records include files relating to the creation and administration o f the institute through the 1980s; materials re­ lating to the research and publication projects done at the institute; and corresp on den ce with the artists, printers, and curators w ho have worked with Tamarind. The p a p e rs o f th e la te M . L. R osenthal, professor emeritus of English at New York University (NYU), w ere donated to NYU’s Fales Library by his widow, Victoria Rosenthal. The collection is valued at over $135,000. Rosenthal is renow ned for his books o f literary criticism, particularly on 20th-century literature, and his ow n poetry. T h e c o lle ctio n con tain s many original letters, cards, typescripts o f poem s, and autographed m anuscripts from som e o f this cen tu ry ’s m ost w ell-resp ected authors. C o m e d ia n Tim C o n w a y d o n a te d those m ag ic m o m en ts fro m “T h e C arol B u rn ett Show ,” along with his other 35-plus years o f w ork in telev ision and m ovies to B ow ling G reen State University. Conway, a 1956 gradu­ ate o f Bow ling G reen, has donated much o f his work, papers, and personal memorabilia for inclusion in the University’s Popular Cul­ ture Library. The papers o f evangelist G ra d y W ilson (1919– 1987) are now available to researchers at the Billy Graham Center Archives on the W heaton College campus in Wheaton, Illinois. W ilson was on e o f the leaders o f the Billy Gra­ ham Evangelistic Association from its earliest days. His papers tell the story o f the post-World War II church in America.
