Based on five years of IPI research into the deterio­ ration of acetate film, it is in­ t e n d e d to e n a b le sta ff o f m useum s, archives, and li­ b ra rie s to u n d e rs ta n d th e w ays in w hich tem perature and relative hum idity in stor­ age environm ents relate to the chemical d e ­ generation of photographic film, cinem a film, and microfilm. It will also assist in predicting the effects of actual storage conditions on the life expectancy of film collections. The four- part guide consists o f a 24-page booklet, a double-sided tim e/tem perature/RH wheel, time contour graphs and a “time out of storage” table. ASTM d ev elo p in g adhesives s ta n d a rd Subcom m ittee D14.07 of the American Society for Testing a n d Materials (ASTM) is developing several standards for adhesives used in librar­ ies and archives, beginning w ith a standard for pressure-sensitive adhesives. Preservation M a n a g e m e n t Sem inar The second Preservation M anagem ent Seminar, co-sponsored by the College Libraries Commit­ tee o f the Com m ission on Preservation and Access and the Southeastern Library Network (SOLINET), w as held from July 22 through 30, 1993, at W ellesley College and proved to be an overw helm ing success. Tw enty-one partici­ pants and five faculty w orked for eight days developing the know ledge base and m anage­ m ent skills required to build balanced preser­ vation program s. This program clearly dem o n ­ strated the effectiveness of a residence seminar format for training and facilitating communica­ tion among part-time preservation administrators. The Commission and SOLINET have decided to o p e n sponsorship of future seminars to other o rg an iz atio n s.
