MEETINGS 

In this department every effort is made to publish timely announcements of future meet- 
ings, as well as reports of events and papers presented at past meetings. For this we rely on 
the organizers of meetings to send us announcements as early as possible, and on colleagues 
in each country to send us reports of local activities in the history of mathematics. Unneces- 
sary duplication may be avoided by checking with the Editor, Managing Editor, or the 
nearest member of the International Commission listed on the back cover of Historiu Marhe- 
marica before submitting reports to this department. 

Vlllth International Congress of Logic, Methodology, and 
Philosophy of Science 

Moscow, USSR, August 17-22, 1987 

The VIIIth International Congress of Logic, Methodology, and Philosophy of 
Science will be held in Moscow, August 17-22, 1987. The Congress is sponsored 
by the USSR Academy of Sciences and is organized under the auspices of the 
International Union of History and Philosophy of Science, Division of Logic, 
Methodology, and Philosophy of Science. 

The official languages of the Congress are English, French, German, Russian, 
and Spanish. Three kinds of sessions are planned: invited lectures, contributed 
papers, and symposia and affiliated meetings. Topics to be covered in the sessions 
include the foundations of mathematical reasoning; model theory; the foundations 
of computation and recursion theory; set theory; general logic; and history of 
logic, methodology, and philosophy of science.
