CONCLUSION: Although dementia is more common among patients treated with sepsis in the ICU, sepsis was not an independent risk factor for later dementia in the Swedish national critical care cohort. The following covariates were chosen from available variables through directed acyclic graph analysis and a literature review: sepsis; age [1] and sex, all of which have been previously described as independent risk factors for dementia [33] ; CCI; SAPS3 box 2+3; hospital length of stay (H-LoS); ICU-LoS; invasive ventilator therapy; and RRT. However, after adjusting for age, sex, CCI score, SAPS3 box 2+3, H-LoS, ICU-LoS, invasive ventilator therapy, and RRT, sepsis was no longer an independent risk factor for dementia (HR 1.01, 95% CI 0.91-1.11) (Fig. 4) ./cache/cord-347833-b3yrxkt0.txt ./txt/cord-347833-b3yrxkt0.txt
