We designed this study to explore the relationship between personal protective equipment (PPE) used by HCWs and the clinical course, outcome, and viral load in both HCWs and non-HCWs involved in a SARS cluster stemming from exposure to a single index case in our Emergency Department. Differences between the quantitative RT-PCR values for SARS-CoV in nasopharyngeal swab and HRCT scores in HCWs and non-HCWs were tested for significance using the Mann-Whitney U test. We have described a better clinical outcome after SARS in 4 HCWs compared with 12 non-HCWs; despite all having been involved in a cluster related to one index patient, with 13 apparently directly infected by that patient and 3 others by secondary transmission. ./cache/cord-303027-r2jgu2be.txt ./txt/cord-303027-r2jgu2be.txt
