It is tempting to speculate that FMF patients carrying V726A and R761H variants-which represents the wild type residues in all bats and pangolin sequences-might modulate better their cytokine response to SARS-CoV-2 infection. Thus, the severity of COVID-19 disease in FMF patients, once infected, might be influenced, at least partially, depending on specific MEFV genotypes which shows country-specific differences.
