Analysis of 2.2–3.2 kb extended genome sequences including the partial P2 (2C) and complete P3 (3A, 3B (VPg), 3C(pro), and 3D(pol)) regions of selected strains indicated that viruses yielding the 280/283 bp amplicons represent a putative new genus of Picornaviridae. This study utilized a broadly reactive primer set targeting conserved amino acid motifs encoding regions present in calicivirus RNA-dependent RNA polymerases (RdRp) and are partially also present in other viral RdRps. As part of the study here we report the serendipitous detection of novel picornaviruses in chicken and turkey samples that included diagnostic cases with runting-stunting syndrome (RSS). ./cache/cord-283168-kl1hoa1x.txt ./txt/cord-283168-kl1hoa1x.txt
