In this study, we aimed to assess the impact of implementing a diagnostic algorithm that combines rapid respiratory viral surveillance and PCT tests on older patients presenting to the ED with severe acute respiratory illness. This prospective cohort study reports the clinical impact of rapid molecular diagnosis of respiratory pathogens in conjunction with PCT testing on older adult patients presenting to the ED with severe acute respiratory illness. The findings of our study support the use of rapid multiplex PCR respiratory panels in conjunction with the PCT test for early diagnosis of respiratory viral infection and to inform optimizing antibiotic use in older adult patients presenting to the ED with severe acute respiratory illness.	./cache/cord-264059-jf4j00bp.txt	./txt/cord-264059-jf4j00bp.txt
