Smears were examined microscopically for the presence of common parasites by observing eggs of helminthes (e.g., Toxocara canis [canine ascariasis] and Trichuris vulpis [canine whipworm]) and oocysts or trophozoites of protozoa (e.g., coccidia, Giardia duodenalis and trichomonads Tritrichomonas foetus/Pentatrichomonas hominis).
