The aim of this study was to determine the prevalence of MCPyV in respiratory specimens collected from immunocompetent and immunocompromised patients and evaluate the possible of contribution of the virus in respiratory disease alone, or in combination with other respiratory viruses. MCPyV DNA was found in 3.27% of nasopharyngeal aspirate samples obtained from patients with respiratory tract disease as determined by both PCR assays (LT and VP1).
