The detection rates of respiratory viruses from sputum samples were significantly higher than those from nasopharyngeal swabs in adults using real‐time multiplex RT‐PCR. The aim of this study was to compare the detection rates of respiratory viruses in paired nasopharyngeal swabs and sputum samples from adult patients with respiratory symptoms using multiplex real-time RT-PCR. The present study found that the overall detection rate from sputum samples in adults was significantly higher than from nasopharyngeal swabs using multiplex real-time RT-PCR. In conclusion, the detection rates of respiratory viruses from sputum samples are significantly higher than those from nasopharyngeal swabs in adults using multiple real-time RT-PCR.	./cache/cord-274127-12x5cc8i.txt	./txt/cord-274127-12x5cc8i.txt
