Both Coxsackie Band encephalomyocarditis virus infections in mice may progress to myocarditis and congestive heart failure, and some survi-vors may progress to a dilated cardiomyopathy later in life [5, [14] [15] [16] . Rabbits that died on days 10-12 had pleural effusion, pulmonary edema, ascites, enlarged hearts, dilated right and left ventricular cavities, and congestion in the lungs and liver.
