Secomet-V, an extract of an African plant also found elsewhere in Asia, has been found to have potent antiviral activity against a poxvirus (vaccinia virus), rendering about 1 million particles noninfectious in 1 min with a 50th of a milliliter in in vitro assays (FIG. HIV-infected cells treated with plant extract showed no significant effect on the viral levels (TABLE 1) .
