There is also a possibility that the causative agent can remain viable for extended periods of time after drying on environmental surfaces. Preliminary results of a large-scale trial of a candidate AIDS vaccine announced by the US-based biotechnology company VaxGen suggest that it is possible to protect some individuals from HIV infection. The result is that poor diagnosis of pain in cancer patients remains a significant problem, with many physicians finding it difficult to differentiate between the various pain types; and, many underestimating its severity.
