cord-295399-rj2i3cxy	Wurapa, Frederick	One Health concept for strengthening public health surveillance and response through Field Epidemiology and Laboratory Training in Ghana	2011-12-14		.txt	text/plain	4312	185	45	The persisting need for well-trained epidemiologists to support the public health surveillance, outbreak investigation and response system made the development of the Field Epidemiology and Laboratory Training Programme (FELTP) a national priority. In keeping with the "One health" concept, to mitigate the increasing threat of outbreaks of zoonotic diseases and to further strengthen the laboratory's key role in public health surveillance and response in the country, the trainees/residents were selected from serving staff nominated by the Ghana Health Service, Ministry of Health (physicians and laboratory scientists) and the Veterinary Service Directorate, Ministry of Food and Agriculture (veterinarians). During the 2-year period of training especially when on field postings, residents of the programme join the staff of the Ghana Health Service and Veterinary Service Directorate to investigate and respond to disease outbreaks and public health emergencies.	./cache/cord-295399-rj2i3cxy.txt	./txt/cord-295399-rj2i3cxy.txt
