The genomes of human malaria parasite Plasmodium falciparum and its major mosquito vector Anopheles gambiae were published in 2002 (Gardner et al., 2002; Holt et al., 2002) . Genome sequencing projects for other important human disease vectors are in progress Megy et al., 2009 ). One of the similar efforts for human pathogens is the NIH Influenza Genome Sequencing Project.
