National Science and Technology Council (US) (2000) has defined Nanotechnology as: "Research and Technology development at the atomic, molecular, or macromolecular levels in the length of approximately 1-100 nm range, to provide fundamental understanding of phenomena and materials at the nanoscale, and to create and use structures, devices and systems that have novel properties and functions because of their small size. Nanotechnology research and development includes integration of nanoscale structure into larger material components, systems, and architectures. Nanotechnology will complement genomic and proteomic research and accelerate the ability of scientist to prevent, detect and treat cancer.
