Thus, the 18-hpi time point is considered an early time point during MAV-1 infection of CMT93 cells, prior to DNA replication, suggesting the involvement of an early viral protein in PKR depletion. We examined PKR protein levels during MAV-1 infection and found that PKR was depleted from the cells as early as 12 hpi (Fig. 7) .
