Standardized measures of disease severity are urgently needed for clinical trials of vaccines and antivirals currently in development for ARI caused by influenza (FLU), respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), human metapneumovirus (HMPV), adenovirus (ADV), or human rhinovirus (HRV) [9] [10] [11] [12] [13] [14] [15] [16] [17] . Considering the variability in disease presentations and courses of illness with influenza and other respiratory viral infections in children, the ViVI Disease Severity Score is not intended to be validated against future clinical events or outcomes.
