Overall, a large number of phage-related sequences were detected (77.3% of viral read pairs and 39.9% of viral contigs), likely representing the most abundant entities infecting bacteria present in the bat digestive system, which exhibited similarity mostly to the families Inoviridae, Siphoviridae, and Myoviridae ( Table 1 ). Several mammalian viral families, supported by the contigs and sequencing reads, have been identified previously in New World [23, 24, 26] and Old World [17, 18, 89] bat species.
