Does coronavirus pose a challenge to the diagnoses of anxiety and depression? A view from psychiatry 2020-09-03 .txt text/plain 2350 122 58 For a diagnosis of anxiety disorder or depression to be made, an individual should be experiencing a range of symptoms associated with the anxiety and depression, and the symptoms should be apparent for a period of time (not just hours or minutes but weeks or months) and sufficiently severe that they interfere with the person's ability to function fully in their home, work, social or private leisure settings. A questionnaire asking about mental disorders found that 21.2% had received a diagnosis of depression at some time in their lives and 14% had been diagnosed with anxiety. Given that we are facing an unknown and unseen threat to our health and survival, it is unsurprising that there have been increased numbers of people complaining of symptoms of stress, anxiety and depression. It is therefore not surprising that there is an increase in the symptoms of anxiety and depression in the general population, particularly in people working in front-line healthcare. ./cache/cord-310592-he6wquwj.txt ./txt/cord-310592-he6wquwj.txt
