In this study, we investigated which anthropogenic factors played a role in the risk of HPAI in Thailand using outbreak data from the ''second wave'' of the epidemic (3 July 2004 to 5 May 2005 in the country. The risk of HPAI varies spatially according to the anthropogenic characteristics of the different geographical areas of interest, each characterized by a variety of human activities such as poultry farming practices, trade activities and market rules, land use and agro-ecosystems, and veterinary services structure and control. This analysis shows that, when adjusted for the effects of environmental and poultry variables, several anthropogenic factors were significantly associated with an increased risk of HPAI in both chicken and duck populations. ./cache/cord-000172-um0ds7dh.txt ./txt/cord-000172-um0ds7dh.txt
