Moreover, Shiga toxin antigens were detected significantly more (p = 0.001) often among the eae/stx(+) strains from healthy calves when compared to eae/stx(+) strains from diarrheic calves. No significant difference (p ≥ 0.05) was detected among the eae(+) and eae/stx(+) strains from healthy and diarrheic calves for enterohemolysin production. In this study, the Premier EHEC assay was used to detect Shiga toxin antigens associated with eae/stx strains. When examined in the immunoassay, Shiga toxin antigens were detected for all 20 eae/stx (100%) strains from healthy calves and in 8 of 11 (73.0%) strains from diarrheic calves.
