Archived Davidson's-fixed paraffin-embedded (DFPE) tissues in the Aquaculture Pathology Laboratory of The University of Arizona are an untapped invaluable resource for pathogen discovery, metagenomic and evolutionary studies to understand the origin, evolution and spread of shrimp pathogens worldwide. Our results confirm that NGS from DNA extracted from DFPE tissue is also a viable approach to detect know viral sequences.
