cord-343050-1pfqgvie	Huang, Qiu Sue	Southern Hemisphere Influenza and Vaccine Effectiveness Research and Surveillance	2015-06-09		.txt	text/plain	6054	281	29	The results during the first 2 years (2012-2013) provided scientific evidence to (a) support a change to NZ's vaccination policy for young children due to high influenza hospitalizations in these children; (b) contribute to the revision of the World Health Organization's case definition for severe acute respiratory illness for global influenza surveillance; and (c) contribute in part to vaccine strain selection using vaccine effectiveness assessment in the prevention of influenza-related consultations and hospitalizations. Over 5 years, we hope this project will shed more light on the burden of influenza and other respiratory pathogens in our study population and subgroups and estimate key epidemiologic parameters such as relative rates of infection, clinical disease, general practice visits and hospitalizations as well as risk factors for illness, effectiveness of vaccination, mechanisms of immunity and monitoring for new influenza viruses with pandemic potential such as A(H7N9) and other emerging viruses (e.g. MERS-CoV) and provide a framework for timely assessment of severity which is essential in an event of emergence of these pathogens.	./cache/cord-343050-1pfqgvie.txt	./txt/cord-343050-1pfqgvie.txt
