Although guidelines from the World Health Organization (WHO) and Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) suggest various strategies to optimize the supply of PPE in healthcare settings [4, 7] , there are limited data on alternatives to surgical masks. In the current COVID-19 pandemic, Chinese recommendations on face mask use in community settings suggest that cloth masks could be used in a very low-risk population to prevent the spread of disease [13] . This review aims to integrate current studies and guidelines to determine the efficacy of cloth masks as both inward and outward protective equipment and whether they can be used in healthcare settings and/or the community in light of the PPE shortage. ./cache/cord-318660-47dqa1dd.txt ./txt/cord-318660-47dqa1dd.txt
