This meeting report highlights accomplishments of GVN researchers in many priority areas of human virology, including the current Zika epidemic, infections by human papillomavirus, influenza, Ebola, Lassa, dengue, HIV, hepatitis C and chikungunya viruses, and the development of improved diagnostics and new vaccines. The main objectives of the meeting were to present and discuss current findings in medical virology, including advances in research on HIV vaccines and other important retroviruses; provide a framework to encourage collaborations among world experts; and address the GVN's annual strategy for continued development.
