The proportion of patients with detectable stool viral RNA was higher among those with diarrhea than those without diarrhea Table 2 including the hospital admission period, places in which the patients were recruited, sample size, age, sex, disease severity, non-gastrointestinal symptoms (fever and respiratory symptoms) on presentation, and gastrointestinal symptoms (anorexia, nausea/vomiting, diarrhea and abdominal pain/discomfort). In this meta-analysis of 4,243 COVID-19 patients from six countries, the pooled prevalence of all gastrointestinal symptoms (including anorexia, nausea/vomiting, diarrhea or abdominal pain) was 17.6%.
