T h e Art Libraries Journal is published by A R L I S / U K & Ireland for the i n t e r -
national art library c o m m u n i t y and also for the w i d e r readership of those 
interested in t h e d o c u m e n t a t i o n of the visual arts. It highlights t h e rapid 
changes in i n f o r m a t i o n t e c h n o l o g y w h i c h are affecting the activities of the 
profession, and t h e m a n n e r in w h i c h previously disparate disciplines in art 
d o c u m e n t a t i o n are drawing together. At the same time it is a j o u r n a l rooted 
in the traditional concerns of art libraries. 

T h e majority of the ALfs articles are specially commissioned, but relevant 
conference papers are also published, including selected c o n t r i b u t i o n s to the 
annual meetings of the I FLA Section of Art Libraries. In addition, the Section 
of Art Libraries Newsletter is currently distributed gratis to Art Libraries Journal 
subscribers. C o n t r i b u t i o n s and c o r r e s p o n d e n c e are invited and sh ould be 
submitted to the Editor. 

Regular features include: 
• reviews of bibliographies and core reference works within the broad area of 

the visual arts, and of books about, or relevant to, art librarianship 
• an annual Bibliographies Update providing current awareness of art bibliogra-

phies of all kinds, including bibliographical databases 
• an Annual Bibliography of Art Librarianship, w h i c h records significant 

writings o n art librarianship, w h e r e v e r and in w h a t e v e r language they 
appear 

• an annual index to the contents. 
T h e ALJ publishes material in English, F r e n c h , G e r m a n and Spanish; 

articles in languages o t h e r than English are a c c o m p a n i e d by an English 
summary. 

T h e ALJ normally appears in March, May, September and January of each 
year, and goes to libraries in over 40 countries.
