EIC Announcement: 2008 Changes to the Editorial Board of Expert Systems 2008 is the 25th anniversary of Expert Systems and is an exciting time for the Journal. Recently introduced changes in the Journal’s scope and review processes have led to a greater volume of quality submissions and a much wider coverage of the knowledge engineering discipline in our publications. As a result our editorial team is growing. Introducing our new co-Editor in Chief I am delighted to announce that Dr Jon G. Hall, from the Open University, UK, will be joining me as co-Editor in Chief. Jon has been on the editorial board of Expert Systems since 2005, and an associate editor since January 2007. His biography is included at the end of this announcement. Introducing our new Associate Editors Four new associate editors have been appointed to join Dr Elif Ubeyli, who will also continue in this role. They have been selected based on their research expertise, their past experience with Expert Systems and their dedication as reviewers and guest editors since I have been EiC. David: from all of Expert Systems thank you, and all the best for the future. Biographies Jon Hall MBA PhD FBCS CITP is a Senior Lecturer in the Computing Department at the Open University. Previous editorial roles include guest editor of special issues of Elsevier’s Journal of Information and Software Technology and IET Software (formerly IEE Proceedings-Software). Jon holds an IBM Eclipse Innovation Award for Innovation. He is currently focused on providing theoretical and practical foundations for computing as an engineering discipline, and reflecting good practice from software engineering into other engineering disciplines. Juan Ignacio Arribas received his MS and PhD degrees from the University of Valladolid in 1996 and 2001, respectively. In 1997 he was awarded an F.P.I. research fellowship from the Department of Science and was, during 1998, a Visiting Research Associate at the University of Maryland, Baltimore, MD. In 1999 he joined the Department of Teoria de la Senal y Comunicaciones e Ingenieria Telematica where he was appointed as an Associate Professor in 2004. His research interests include expert systems, neural networks and their applications to medical image. Dr Paolo Remagnino PhD, MIEEE is a Reader in the Faculty of Computing, Information Systems and Mathematics at Kingston University, UK. Paolo’s PhD is in Computer Vision, received form University of Surrey in 1993. He is the recipient of a Royal Academy of Engineering Global Award and an EPSRC grant which funded a three year collaboration with Saitama University and Toshiba, Japan, and is involved in many other funded projects as co-investigator, including work on the automatic interpretation of behaviour of people, object classification and dynamics. His past editorial experience spans three journals: Machine Vision and Applications, the International Journal of Robotics and Automation, and Pattern Analysis and Application. His research interests include image processing, computer vision, machine learning, artificial intelligence and robotics. His research is multi-disciplinary in nature and mainly focuses on automatic image and video sequence understanding. Paolo has published over 80 scientific papers and is the editor of four Springer book collections in the field of video surveillance and ambient intelligence. Andrés Silva is an Associate Professor in the Computer Science School of the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (UPM). He has two years industrial experience in software engineering and worked at the the Institute for Systems, Informatics and Safety part of the Joint Research Centre of the European Commission. He obtained his PhD in 2001. Andrés has served on the program committees of several conferences, edited a book on Requirements Engineering for Socio-technical Systems and co-edited a special issue of IET Software (formerly IEE Proceedings-Software). Andrés is author of several research papers published at major conferences (including ICSE) and journals (including IEEE Software, IEEE Transactions on Software Engineering and Safety Science). His research career is centred around Requirements Engineering with a special focus on the topics of Knowledge Management and Safety. Elif Derya Übeyli is an Associate Professor in the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, TOBB University of Economics and Technology. She obtained her PhD in Electronics and Computer Technology from Gazi University in 2004. Since then she has worked on variety of topics including biomedical signal processing, neural networks, optimisation and artificial intelligence and on several projects related to biomedical signal acquisition, processing and classification. Elif has served in many editorial roles, as member of the editorial board of and guest editor for several scientific journals, including the Journal of Engineering and Applied Sciences, the International Journal of Soft Computing, the Research Journal of Applied Sciences, the Research Journal of Medical Sciences. Li Xu is a Professor of Information Technology at Old Dominion University, USA. He is the Editor-in-Chief of Enterprise Information Systems (published by Taylor & Francis) and a member of the editorial board of Systems Research and Behavioural Science (published by Wiley). He was the chair of Confenis 2006 & 2007, sponsored by the IFIP. He has served as special issue editor for IEEE Transactions SMC Part C, IEEE Transactions on Industrial Informatics, Annals of Operations Research, European Journal of Operational Research, Computers & Operations Research, Information Systems, Decision Support Systems, International Journal of Production Research, Knowledge-Based Systems, Expert Systems with Applications, among others. He has published over 100 scientific papers. Lucia Rapanotti 3.1.2008
