Anderson, Publishing Perspectives, November 12) After a 12-year fight, the Association of American Publishers and Copyright Clearance Center have declined to pursue any further appeals in their lawsuit against Georgia State University regarding their reliance on fair use in making materials available via e-reserves. Read more @pubperspectives  Move to Allow Libraries to Transmit Digital Versions of Books (The Asahi Shimbun, November 7) Japan’s Agency for Cultural Affairs is considering a revision to their copyright law that would “allow libraries to send digital versions of books directly to readers' computers or smartphones.” without special authorization from the copyright holder to format-shift the book. Interestingly, libraries in Japan “already provide a service of copying up to half of a book and either handing the printed version to a user or mailing it to the individual.” Read more @AJWasahi cOAlition S Releases the Journal Checker Tool, a Search Engine that Checks Plan S Compliance (cOAlition S, November 18) cOAlition S has announced the release of a new tool, the Journal Checker Tool (JCT), currently in beta. The web-based tool “provides clear advice to researchers on how they can comply with their funder’s Plan S-aligned Open Access policy when seeking to publish in their chosen journal.” Feedback is welcome. Read more @cOAlitionS_OA REALM Project Releases Results From Latest Tests of Coronavirus on Five Common Building Materials; Raw Data Sets and Updated Toolkit Resources Also Available (OCLC, November 19) “The REALM project has released results from the sixth round of tests conducted in a Battelle laboratory that determined how long SARS-CoV-2 (the virus that causes COVID-19) can remain active on five materials commonly used in furnishings, exhibits, and equipment found in museums, libraries, and archives.” Read more @OCLC Articles & Reports | Articles et rapports University Staff Urge Probe into e-Book Pricing 'Scandal' (R. Mehta, .coda, November 13)  This article reports on a comment provided by a university CIO at a recent webinar about cybersecurity in academia.
