VTDITC: Hip Hop Studies at Virginia Tech, or, more commonly, Virginia Tech Digging in the Crates, is a practitioner-focused, student-driven, culturally responsive community engagement program that prioritizes experiential learning. The second iteration of this workshop received front-page coverage in the local newspaper; the article highlighted how hip hop culture was connecting students, faculty, staff, and community members in the Newman Library (Korth, 2018). VTDITC is comprised of six main components: 1) the seminar series, 2) media literacy workshops, 3) weekly studio hours, 4) the community engagement fellows program, 5) credit-bearing curriculum, and 6) practitioners for hire.
