Notre Dame mens basketball head coach Mike Brey will address the assembly on his experiences in Kuwait this summer as part of Operation Hardwood, a program sponsored by United Service Organizations (USO) and Armed Forces Entertainment in which college coaches worked with basketball teams composed of military personnel to provide the troops with recreation and competition. Rev. Richard V. Warner, C.S.C., director of Campus Ministry, will offer a prayer, and taps will be played in tribute to those who lost their lives. Patriots Day was designated by congressional legislation as a day of remembrance for Sept. 11 victims.* 8:46 a.m. – The Saint Anthony of Padua Bell in the Basilica of the Sacred Heart will toll for 10 minutes beginning at 8:46 a.m. in solemn observance of the time when the first airplane hijacked by terrorists – American Airlines Flight 11 – hit the north tower of the World Trade Center on Sept. 11, 2001.* 5:15 p.m. – Victims of the terrorist attacks and their families will be remembered during Mass in the Basilica.
