Garvey Teresa Godwin Phelps, professor of law at the University of Notre Dame Law School, will be the inaugural Eusebio Francisco Kino Professor in Faith and Culture at La Universidad Iberoamericano inMexico City. The visiting professorship is named in honor of the 17 th century Jesuit missionary, cartographer and astronomer who drew the first accurate maps of the Baja Peninsula, and helped introduce the new crops and domesticated animals which would generate a new culture in what was then the new world of the Americas. Phelps will visit Mexico City and Guadalajara from Oct. 11 to Oct. 20 to lecture and conduct academic seminars onRe-Membering: The Role of Personal Stories in Peacemaking and Nation Building;Doing Justice in the Aftermath of Oppression and Violence;The Needs of Victims and the Responsibility of the Law;The Needs of the Nation and the Possibilities of LawandAn Assessment of Responses:Argentina, Chile, El Salvador and South Africa.
