Created in 2001, the event is organized by the Universitys Kroc Institute for International Peace Studies and is taking place at the Hesburgh Center for International Studies. One of the worlds largest and most respected development agencies, CRS has become in recent years a leader in developing programs to resolve conflict and promote reconciliation in the many areas of turmoil in which it operates. The agencys work overlaps with the interests of the Kroc Institute, which conducts research, education and outreach programs on the causes of violence and the conditions for sustainable peace. The summer institute has convened CRS staff members from 23 countries for a week of training, discussion and strategizing. Sessions are geared toward strengthening their capacity to monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of CRS peace building programs from the Congo and Colombia to Kosovo and Mindanao.
