Bradshaw, Johnson and coauthor L. Edward Phillips provide the first-ever comprehensive commentary of the early Christian document known to scholars as the Apostolic Tradition. By suggesting that the document is a collection of material from different historical periods, the authors help refute the common notion that it stems from the work of Hippolytus of Rome in the third century. The document’s original Greek text is largely missing and, in order to compensate, the authors reconstructed it from other versions existing in Latin, Coptic, Arabic and Ethiopic.p.
