Roche, I.A. O?Shaughnessy Dean of the College of Arts and Letters at the University of Notre Dame.p. Titled “The Intellectual Appeal of Catholicism and the Idea of a Catholic University,” the book presents the challenges and promise of a Catholic university and articulates its distinct mission in the context of a mainstream intellectual culture.p. Rev. Theodore M. Hesburgh, C.S.C., Notre Dame’s president emeritus, writes in the book’s foreword: “This trenchant and intellectual presentation gives us hope that by exploring the ultimate questions and ultimate values that distinguish a great Catholic university, we may come ever closer to realizing the living unity of knowledge and dignity, wisdom and grace, God and truth.”p.
