Williams, C.S.C., an associate professor of management and director of the Center for Ethics and Religious Values in Business at the University of Notre Dame, will be on leave in 2003 to represent the United Nations in organizing a South African National Global Compact Network.p. Initiated by UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan, the Global Compact is designed to increase and spread the benefits of global economic development through voluntary corporate policies and actions related to issues such as human rights and the environment. In April 2002, the Center for Ethics and Religious Values in Business and the UN sponsored a conference at Notre Dame, at which officers of multinational companies were encouraged to join the compact.p.
